Advanced Clone Detection and Reporting
Verimatrix QuantumID is a key option within the Video Content Authority System (VCAS) that enables even "perfect clone" client devices to be readily identified and reported to the pay-TV network operator. Creation of cloned client devices can potentially lead to theft of video services and compromise security of any unprotected system. QuantumID technology running in the client devices creates a totally unique identifier for each client device during normal device usage. This unique identifier combines the physical identifiers of the client device with a specific fingerprint related to operational events and client usage patterns.
QuantumID enables unique client identification on any type of content distribution system. This includes architectures where the physical network topology connecting a subscriber to the network cannot be uniquely identified, or where a single physical connection may support multiple clients. This makes the use of QuantumID extremely attractive to operators with broadcast network architectures, especially where client devices do not have a permanently connected back-channel.
QuantumID extends the security perimeter of the IPTV network by introducing an additional layer of client identification independent of the physical hardware. This identifier can be used to support additional authentication and re-provisioning mechanisms designed to address theft of service through device cloning. With powerful authentication techniques such as QuantumID, theft of service in pay-TV systems due to client cloning can be reduced or eliminated.
