and business models. Argentina has a telco market similar to the U.S., with a few large telcos plus hundreds of smaller cooperatives. In a recent government ruling, only the cooperatives will be allowed to offer IPTV services, and a wholesale/retail model will be required to reduce both CAPEX and OPEX.
Dennis Pearson of Iowa Network Services (INS) discussed how Verimatrix addresses their unique content security needs in an IPTV wholesale model and how that compares in the Latin American market.
Bo Ferm, Director of Product Marketing at Verimatrix, had the opportunity to discuss content security architectures for hybrid networks. He examined the evolution of content protection, which has followed the path of pay-TV networks, that takes advantage of IP-based video delivery.
Since a hybrid network is in principle a two-way IP network with a broadcast overlay, IPTV content security can be directly applied. This offers an opportunity to transition from legacy conditional access systems based on smart cards, to a single software-based system that supports both broadcast and IP.
