OTT as a Game Changer
Steve Christian, VP of Marketing, presented at this year's OTTCon on “What Every Digital OTTCon Over-the-Top TV and Video Conference 2011
TV Executive Needs to Know about Adaptive Rate Streaming.”
Once digital TV operators understand the basic principles of adaptive rate streaming, the next step is to make strategic decisions on how to best integrate the video delivery protocol with their existing network infrastructure. With the business case determined, tuning the different parameters can be quite a challenge.
Adaptive rate streaming is being recognized as a disruptive technology for digital TV operators. To help guide them through the decision-making process, Steve's session reviewed the key stakeholders that have developed different adaptive rate protocols, along with some illustrative deployment examples.
He also explained key selection parameters and technical tradeoffs that are required when deploying this technology. He took questions from the audience on the game-changing business issues from the perspective of different types of operators and vendors, as well as what might lie ahead for adaptive rate streaming technology.
