There is a widespread misconception that the IoT will raise new threats that can only be met by emerging technologies, but the reality is that the IoT is not really a new problem for the security industry. We have had things connected to the internet for many years now, most relevantly for Verimatrix being the set-top box.

The security certification program for UHD capable chipsets we unveiled at NAB 2016 is a significant development for Ultra HD because it enables production of set top boxes and client devices trusted to deliver premium content to consumers at the highest quality possible. The program entitled, “Ultra Security certification,” enables components including set-top boxes in UHD ecosystems to meet the strongest security requirements specified by premium rights holders.

As sales of the iPhone 5 soars, I would like to take a moment to talk about the Android-based devices.  “Why Android, and why right now?” you might ask yourself.  The answer is clear: while Apple devices have an almost cult-like following, Google’s Android has a global market share of 59% with more than a million Android-based devices being activated every day. That’s 12 devices every second.

A recent business trip took me through San Francisco International Airport, where I stumbled upon the Television: TV in the Antenna Age exhibit.  From my perspective, the most interesting part of the exhibit is the section on the evolution of screen sizes.
